FLORENCE, AL - The University of North Alabama School of the Arts, Department of Music, and UNA Opera will present an outdoor production of Libby Larsen's "The Silver Fox" on Friday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 25 at 2 p.m. in the Norton Auditorium Courtyard.

A charming one-act American Opera for all ages, "The Silver Fox" is a tale of a young girl's journey to find the courage to be her true self. Libby Larsen spins this beautiful tale with enchanting melodies and exciting musical language that will enthrall all ages.

After a year-long hiatus from the stage, Dr. Tiffany Bostic-Brown, Director of Vocal Studies and the production's Artistic Director, decided Libby Larsen's "The Silver Fox" was the ideal production to bring to the stage for UNA Opera's first live performance of the year.

"This opera's plot lends itself well to an outside performance, and this show felt accessible for our singers," Bostic-Brown said. "It also highlights operas composed by women composers."

Larsen is a contemporary, American classical composer who has written more than 15 operas and more than 500 works in all genres. She is one of the most performed living composers, and students from the UNA Opera ensemble had a masterclass and Q-and-A session with this accomplished musician earlier this semester.

Because of the ongoing pandemic, UNA Opera and Norton Auditorium faculty and staff have provided a safe live performance opportunity for both artists and patrons alike. Placing the performance outside is the best option to promote the ongoing health and safety of all involved parties.

Seating in the Norton Auditorium Courtyard is limited. Masks/face coverings and social distancing will be required. Tickets are $15 general admission and $5 for UNA affiliates. Tickets will only be available online. Purchase your tickets by visiting http://qhu.rrmbaojie.com/schoolofthearts/purchase-tickets.html.
