FLORENCE, AL – The annual Martin Luther King Jr., Remembrance March on the University of North Alabama campus will take place at noon Monday, Jan. 17. Participants are asked to gather on the front steps of the Wendell W. Gunn Commons for a brief welcome and program.
“MLK Jr., Day is a defining moment each year for the University of North Alabama and our students, faculty, and staff to make our campus and our local communities more equitable and inclusive,” said Ron Patterson, UNA’s Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. “This day is truly a day to remember but not forget. It is also a day to continue meaningful and intentional action toward building the beloved community of Dr. King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.”
The annual march will take place through campus and will end at the Guillot University Center Atrium, where there will be boxed lunches available for participants as well as information about the UNA Black Studies program and ways to honor Dr. King through community service.
“Dr. King worked tirelessly to build a society that values the worth, dignity, and respect of every human being,” Patterson said. “We encourage everyone to participate in this Day of Service.”
The march, program, and lunch are hosted by the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Office of Student Engagement. In the event of inclement weather, the march will be cancelled.
