Una's Kilby Laboratory School Sweeps Elementary Category In Alabama Bicentennial Writing Contest

FLORENCE, Ala.-It's a clean sweep for Kilby Laboratory School!Alabama Literacy Association recently announced the winners of its statewide Alabama Bicentennial Writing Contest and Kilby students placed 1st, 2ndand 3rdin the elementary age category.

Winners and their topics:

First Place: Sammy Gren, third grade, won the overall elementary division for his entry, "Welcome to the USS Alabama."

Second Place: Luci Vacik, fifth grade, "The U.S. Space and Rocket Center."

Third Place: Corbin Kitts, third grade, "UNA Tour."

The Alabama Literacy Association is the state affiliate of the International Literacy Association. Its mission is to transform lives through literacy. The ALA Alabama Bicentennial Writing Contest was an official Alabama 200 Bicentennial event with hundreds of entries from all over Alabama.

Winners will be honored during the Association's annual fall conference, which will be held Oct. 23-24, 2019 in Birmingham.
